Juniperus squamata, also known as the flaky juniper or Himalayan juniper, is a species of coniferous shrub native to the Himalayas and China. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree reaching 2-10 meters tall, with flaky brown bark and a prostrate to irregularly-conical crown. The leaves are broad, needle-like, and often a glaucous blue-green in color. The cones are berry-like, globose to ovoid, and mature in about 18 months. Juniperus squamata is widely grown as an ornamental plant in Europe and North America, valued for its bluish foliage and compact habit. Several cultivars have received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, including 'Blue Carpet', 'Blue Star', and 'Holger'. The species is also known as the provincial tree of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
